Call for proposals

Manifesting that feminist and Gender Studies scholars, activists, artists, and practitioners have built and continue to build platforms for critical knowledge production within and beyond academia, the g27 conference foregrounds the presence of radically feminist, queer, crip, anticolonial, indigenous, trans, and antiracist scholarship and praxis, here and now. With this conference we want to recognise the achievements made by feminist practitioners, Gender Studies scholars and gender researchers across diverse traditions and theoretical trajectories and expand on its potentials and futures. We are here! holds space for conversations that rethink and reimagine the pasts, presents, futures but also the shifting boundaries of feminist scholarship and praxis, its political and intellectual commitments, potentials and strengths. We are here! connects histories and builds futures.  

We are here! also references activist slogans from the queer, feminist and antiracist social movements that are part of the history of gender research. By connecting to the situated knowledges, experiences and solidarities of these movements, g27 invites contributions that engage with multiple expressions of – and resistance against – colonialism, extractivism, punishment, and domination, and their implications for gendered lives, histories and futures, locally and globally. The conference also invites explorations of the futures of Gender Studies from the vantage point of today, as well as from historical moments that have shaped and continue to inform the field.  How does research in Gender Studies and gender research in other disciplines continue to respond to social, political, ecological, and epistemological challenges, while also creating new forms of knowledge, solidarity, resistance, and hope across diverse contexts and struggles? In this spirit, the conference welcomes contributions from diverse areas of exploration that critically engage with and expand existing understandings of how intersectional knowledge about gender and sexuality can contribute to imagining and building more just futures – today and for tomorrow.  

We welcome proposals for panel sessions, roundtables, paper presentations, and poster presentations. We also welcome contributions in the form of exhibitions, performances, workshops, creative writing, and other formats. 

We Are Here! invites contributions that engage with the conference theme, and the multiple directions, tensions, and possibilities currently shaping the field. Together we create a space of envisioning where we are and where we have been – to imagine where we are going.
